When/Where is Secret of Mana?

Are there theories for when/where this exists within the Mana universe? It seems to be missing key cities that are in other games like Jadd, Lorimar, Wendell, etc... We do know that it references a great war in the past as the palace was used. Is Secret of Mana a distant future in which these cities were destroyed and long forgotten?
