My novel is set several centuries in the future and has two Human characters, one born on Earth before an exodus of Humanity, return. They find it a dystopian place, and in order to leave are guided to an interstellar spacecraft housed in a secret military (where else would it be ;-D). I'd like some advice on whether you guys think it's a cliche to have said base be the usual Area 51 or should I select somewhere else.
Do you think A-51 is overused as a sci-fi trope?
Would you groan if you read a book and the road led to there?
Would it be too obvious a place?
Thanks for any ideas and thoughts put forward. Everything constructive will be appreciated.
Err. To put it in your language: Area 51 being a decoy or unimportant has been the go-to standard for about 20 years at this point so having something of relevance there is the subversion.
