Hello

I need some help with either guidance or perspective. If you're feeling stressed or overwhelmed yourself I would recommend avoid reading further, i wouldn't want to add any additional burden or stress to anyone's life as it is.

My younger brother who lives with my family in Atlanta (2 younger sisters, other twin brother. I live in Wichita) has been acting extremally erratic this past year after having lost one of his closest friends with their passing. As of last friday the situation had escalated to the point where my mother had to call an ambulance who then admitted him to the psychiatric ward of the local hospital. After speaking with a nurse from the hosptial, it appears as of my brother has schizoprenia, or some form or case of schizoprenia. My brother has been resistant to treatment and has been also diagnosed with substance abuse, which is also a common diagnosis with schizophrenia patients.

My brother is being discharged from the hospital tomorrow since he is an adult and the hosptial cannot keep him admitted. My brother while admitted has called my mother begging her to have him released, threatening to hurt her when he gets out, sobbing while asking for forgiveness, etc. My mother is rightfully scared but also relieved he's being released, we all love my brother dearly and this is completely different from the kind of person he was.

I've found a phone number for a mental health assistance line and we will try to ask for help or guidance with them but other than calling the police if something happens, I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with anything like this and can help share that experience to see where my family and I can go to try and help and save my brother.
