Post Body

Hello, i’m recently taking a day to do some rockhounding and fossil collecting around close to Atlanta Georgia the 2nd week of Jan. I was wondering if anyone can guide me on how to rockhound at Mt. Graves.

What i know:

Main Pit you mainly find, but not limited to, lazurite, hematite, rutile, kyanite, pyrite, quartz crystals, and pyrophyllite. The East Pit is mainly for quartz crystals and "iridescent" hematite (rainbow colored).

What I don’t know: Am I suppose to bring a shovel and then dig a couple of dirt out and look for the rocks in the dirt? Or surface hunting suffices?

Also, any other places you’d recommend me in checking out i’s appreciate it!
