Me [26M] and my [27F] girlfriend: is it okay to be mad at someone you love?

Post Body

I've been going out with my girlfriend for a good five months now and we're in love. It's been smooth sailing so far. The other night, however, I goofed. She invited me to a play she was in with the disclaimer it might suck therefore it's okay if you leave midway. It was a late show, I started getting tired, and I left. BUT! It completely slipped my mind to tell her I was leaving. She texted me a little later, pissed off, wondering where I was. She didn't talk to me for the rest of the night.

We made up the next day. But the thing is, is it okay for two people to be mad or get mad over stupid shit? My father has held dangled this ideology over my head for most of my life: "the right girl, the one you will marry, you will never fight with."

tl;dr can people be in love and get mad at eachother and still be in love?
