Welcome to weekly update 151. This week we will take a look into the future and give a short overview of some of the goals for the upcoming year.

2021 - year of Ethereum scaling

In terms of development the Raiden dev team has two primary goals for the year 2021. First goal is to reach the point where the Raiden client is stable enough to be released without restrictions and deposit limits. First step on that path, Bespin mainnet release, is almost ready and we should see it live in the near future. Second goal is to release the Raiden light client on the Ethereum mainnet. The Raiden light client does not require users to run their own Ethereum node and Raiden client while still offering all the features and security of the full client. Lower barrier of entry for the end users should be beneficial for adoption of the Raiden technology.

Adoption will continue to be the top priority for the Raiden business development team. The Ethereum chain is in desperate need of scaling as gas prices continue to rise. In order to stay competitive dApps will have to integrate scaling solutions and the Raiden team is confident some of them will choose Raiden due to its decentralization and linear scalability.

We can expect for the Raiden team to continue their support of hackathons and blockchain events. Last year many events had to be cancelled or adapted to online format. That didn’t stop Jacob and the team in their efforts to promote Raiden so there is no reason to expect anything will change in 2021.

Conclusion

Ethereum chain keeps getting more and more clogged with every new dApp released. Raiden offers a solution to part of the problem in a fully decentralized and linearly scalable way. It will be interesting to see how Raiden will find its place in all of this and what new challenges2021 will bring.
