Hey everyone!
Welcome to weekly update 150. This week we will look back on all the progress and highlights of the year 2020. Let’s dig in!
2020 year in review
At the beginning of the year the main development goal was reaching the Alderaan milestone and releasing the Alderaan version of the Raiden client. First couple of months the development team was working on optimizing Matrix and improving the scenario player while later they were completely focused on manual testing and fixing bugs. On May 26th Alderaan was released together with the RSB and the Raiden Wizard. A couple of weeks later, the team followed up with a new release that fixed a couple of minor bugs and more importantly introduced a new WebUI. Second half of the year the Raiden development team continued their development efforts towards the Bespin development milestone. In parallel the Raiden light client was under constant development and hopefully we will see it’s first mainnet release in the near future.
The Raiden team also participated in a number of blockchain events throughout the year. The only offline event they had the opportunity to participate in was the EthCC in Paris. Later on they promoted Raiden online by making presentations (Noncon, ETHVR0) and sponsoring hackathons. Probably the most interesting event of the year was the Great Reddit Scaling Bake-Off. For this purpose the Raiden team created a solution called Raiddit and you can read all about it here.
Speaking more of promoting Raiden. Once Alderaan was released, the Raiden development team started working on demo projects to showcase the capabilities of the Raiden technology and ease the onboarding experience of new users. As a result Raiden train demo which showcases Raiden in IoT/M2M environment and Raiden paywall demo which illustrates token micro payments were built. Finally, the try.raiden enables anyone to get a full Raiden node ready for use on the Görli testnet.
The Raiden Trust awarded 2 grants this year, PISA and Hub20. Applications for grants are always open so if you have some cool Raiden related project you need some support with, make sure to apply.
Lastly, this year weekly updates didn’t miss a single week which makes us very proud. Big thank you to Mattias, Jacob and Mirtsa for helping out every week!
Conclusion
Very interesting year is almost behind us. Alderaan which introduced auxiliary services on the mainnet was successfully released and soon there will be more updates coming. Thank you everyone for continuous support and hope you had great holidays.
Cheers!
