Hey everyone!

Welcome to Weekly Update 149. This week we will be covering the latest exciting demo released by the Raiden team along with our usual GitHub development progress. Lets dig in!

Raiden Paywall demo

A couple of weeks ago the Raiden development team shared a demo showcasing Raiden’s potential in the M2M and IoT space. We now have the Raiden train demo video demonstrating the fully decentralized M2M microtransactions executed in ~170ms. Last week, the Raiden team released another demo. This time showcasing how Raiden can be used to monetize online content.

A paywall is a method of monetizing access to content, especially news, via a purchase or a paid subscription. Often, paywalls require account creation, as well as the involvement of a third party payment provider (e.g. PayPal or VISA). The Raiden development team built a solution that doesn’t require account creation or a third party payment provider.

Blog post explaining the solution contains additional technical details as well as a video demo. The current version of the demo only implements the basic idea which can be expanded in many different ways. For instance, content can be dynamically priced based on some parameters or the demo can be expanded to also include a loyalty program.

Development progress

The Raiden development team continued to work in parallel on both the Raiden client and the Raiden light client.

Good news in the Raiden client repository is that a potential solution for the Matrix presence issue was discovered. Additionally, the Raiden team also worked on other improvements to the Matrix transport and testing.

In the Raiden light client repository a few issues related to failing tests were successfully resolved while also the development team worked on documentation, dApp and some improvements to the light client SDK.

Conclusion

That’s everything we have for you this week. It was a wild ride of fun content and we hope you feel the same way. If you’re interested to learn more about the content offered by the team or anything about this update, then please leave a comment and we will get back to you the best we can.

Cheers!
