Hey everyone!
Welcome to Weekly Update 138. This week we’ll cover the latest updates from the ETHOnline hackathon, check the latest onboarding tool built by the Raiden development team and as always, go through the latest github activity. Let’s dive in!
ETHOnline Raiden Workshop
In case you missed it, the Raiden team is participating in the newest event organized by ETHGlobal - ETHOnline. Over the period of 4 weeks ETHOnline will help hackers build cool new things on Ethereum as a part of the hackathon and will also host tons of interesting talks and workshops.
The Raiden team will participate in both the hackathon and workshops. Hackathon officially started on October 2nd and to help hackers get familiar with Raiden tech it was announced that on Monday, October 5th, 17.00 CEST, the Raiden workshop will take place. Jacob from the Raiden team will lead the workshop and a link to the livestream can be found here.
If you are interested in joining, the pre-required resources for the workshop session are MacOS or Linux preferred and access to some Ethereum RPC (Infura is fine).
Try Raiden Now!
Are you interested in trying out Raiden yourself, but you don’t know where to start or you are just too lazy to set it up yourself? The Raiden development team has developed a solution to all your problems.
The Try Raiden Network tool will host a Raiden node prefilled with all the tokens you need on the Goerli testnet just for you. All you need is an email address (you can use burner address). Additionally, the Raiden team also created a guide which will help you in opening channels and sending payments.
Playing around with Raiden node has never been easier so there is no reason not to try it yourself!
Development progress
The Raiden development team continued working on the short term development goals and also on a couple of other very nice tasks.
WebRTC support in the Raiden client is close to completion and all the issues discovered with the initial implementation are resolved. The only thing left to be done are final reviews of all the fixes and merging of the changes to the code base. The new release of the RSB is also close to being ready. Last week the Raiden development team introduced a new release candidate and if everything passes testing we should see the release soon.
Furthermore, a new minor release of the Raiden Wizard was introduced. Gorli Wizard in addition to a couple bug fixes also introduces an option to set up a node on the Gorli testnet.
Conclusion
That’s all for this Weekly Update. If you haven’t tried running a Raiden node before now’s a great time to give it a shot and don’t forget that the Raiden workshop for ETHOnline is on later today at 5pm CEST. If you’re interested to learn more about anything in this update or just curious about Raiden Network overall then please leave a comment and we’ll get back to you the best we can.
Cheers!
