Puppy hates the site of a leash or collar
Post Body

Puppy is a lab/shepherd mix (best the rescue could tell). She’s 9 weeks old, they found her in a northern community when she was 7 weeks old and brought down to be seen by the vet and adopted. I got her 6 days ago. Off the bat she was a little shy but has since really warmed up. She’s great with her crate at night (minimal whining, like 30 seconds max and goes in willingly) and with potty training (going out every 1-2 hours, and at night every 3-4 hours). A couple house accidents but only small pees. Slowly starting to learn her name (do small sessions every day with treats) and practicing sit. She’s a little shy around new people, does not hide just sits a few feet away but warms up within a few minutes. Does great with her toys and loves to play. She loves scratches and pets, but sometimes backs away when I try to pet her. It tends to happen when she’s tired. BUT I have tried introducing her collar and leash very slowly but that is a big no go. I have put both on the floor, she’s sniffed it often. She will sniff it, let me touch her with it, lay it across her neck, clicked it around her (and with treats) but refuses to let me put it on her. Runs away immediately or does the head thrash . Is there any suggestions? Should I wait or just take it extremely slow? I’ve been watching lots of YouTube videos on how to do it but none really apply to my situation since all the puppies are already used to it.
