So, I have a not-so-golden retriever named Gabe. He's 7 months old, I got him from an Amish breeder in Indiana when he was 9 weeks. He is an amazing and awesome dog and I'm already smitten. :)
I've got a couple of things to post about, but I'll start with this very weird quirk he and I have developed. He doesn't drink water from a bowl, he will only drink in the bathroom. At first, like most dogs, it was all about the toilet bowl. Then we got to the point where whenever I had to go to the bathroom, I would turn on the sink next to me, and he would take his drink while I did my business. He wasn't always cognizant of what a turned on sink meant, so I got into the habit of running my free hand under the water and holding it out for him to lick, to coax him up to the sink.
Which leads me to now, where he just does not seem interested in water unless I dunk my hand in the sink and he hand-licks it off of me. He won't even go for the full basin unless I lure him in by putting my hand in there first.
I'm assuming this is SUPER weird, and I guess I'm a little worried that he's dehydrating himself by denying himself water through other methods. He seriously just ignores water bowls.
Any tips? Anyone had anything like this before?
