Feeling very conflicted about what to do. So at the end of July I moved into a new apartment. I chose this apartment complex for three reasons. The rent was much more affordable, they offered 1 month free rent and no security deposit. This was HUGE for me, it was the only reason I was able to afford moving. I only paid $925 to move on. $425 was the prorated rent amount for the remainder of July, and an additional $500 for a pet deposit.
August rent was free so today was the first day I logged into the portal to pay my first month of full rent. Imagine my surprise when I see a credit for almost 3k. It’s really odd because there are three pages of transactions yet like I mentioned, I’ve only handed over one check, my prorated rent and pet deposit. For the life of me I cannot imagine why I have this credit and I’m not sure if I should say anything. It would be amazing to be able to save a few thousand but at the same time I don’t want to have to owe money later on.
For what it’s worth it’s a very small apartment complex and I have not seen the leasing manager since the day I moved in, over 30 days ago. She decided not to charge me for both my dogs and only one dog for a security deposit and is not charging me monthly pet rent. It also looks like part of the credit is because she refunded me my security posit and prorated rent. So the total credit is one additional months free rent, plus my dog security posit and prorated rent. Why would they give that all back to me? I know I’m not being kicked out because I talk to the maintenance guy often, he is very nice. What should I do?
