Spotify told me my favorite genre is phonk. I never heard of it. So i started reading up some.
I'm cool with both but it feels like i'm noticing two "schools" of phonk and I can't understand their relation. You've got really dark, typically down tempo, hip-hop that is clearly inspired by stuff like trap in general and especially DJ Screw.
then you also got this much more uptempo, EDM-inspired stuff, that also seems to be associated with street racing, jpop, and other aesthetics in that realm.
What's the deal with that? Is it like an evolution over time, or is it a subgenre that has branched off of the original? What others are there?
