My company has a provider who offers a wide range of various vaccines, including HPV. I (M24), requsted for Gardasil 9, as to prevent genital warts and possibly anogenital cancers associated with HPV, once my boyfriend and I tries having fun with other guys.
I went to the "premier hospital" in the South. It was really a lengthy process. They informed me that they cannot give the vaccine unless I get checked by any MD and be prescribed with HPV vaccine with a route, dosage, and indication.
They gave me to a random MD, a male Urologist to be exact. His face already looked puzzled when I arrived at his clinic. HPV vaccines are rarely given to men he said and asked me for what purpose should I use it. I said it is free in the company, why not take it? Each dose costs around 8,000 pesos. But he needs a more specific answer and I felt obliged to say that I am sexually active and I don't want to have warts. "So you have multiple partners?" he said with a frown on his face. I replied with a soft yes.
He also asked what he should write for the indication. I asked if can it be just "routine vaccination"? He said he can only write "facts". He asked me if he can write sexually active and multiple partners. I just nodded for the conversation to end swiftly.
As I was about to get up and leave the room, he said "thank you" but I acted like I didn't hear anything. I felt very frustrated from that interaction. I am paying you and being proactive in my health yet you are creating a hostile consultation with me.
I arrived at 11:00 AM and went home past 5:00 PM. Poor coordination from the hospital staff. I didn't get vaccinated because Gardasil 9 isn't in stock. They only have Gardasil 6, 11, 16, and 18, which has fewer strain protection. The staff were not able to check the deliveries correctly. They wasted my patience with that consultation for nothing.
I hope most of our healthcare professionals, especially MDs, wouldn't be discriminative against the act of sex or the LGBTQ community. They should act professionally and with empathy towards all their clients.
P.S. Saw a bible verse as the template in the prescription pad. Really hated super religious people.
