I am currently looking for a job and am wondering how accepted alternative style is in the phlebotomy world. I have 4 facial piercings (left and right nostril, septum, and labret) all of them matching coral studs besides the septum which is a curved barbell. I also have stretched ears (10mm) and I dye my hair red. If that is going to keep me from getting a job I'd gladly flip my septum up and dye my hair a more natural color but I don't want to take out any of my piercing or try downsizing my ears. Does anyone know if these things are acceptable?
I've had stretched lobes (double in each lobe, 10mm and 6mm) and a nostril piercing for my entire 13 years working as a phlebotomist. Most of that time has been spent in inpatient settings.
In the old days, the hospital I worked at had a policy that stated "no facial piercings, visible tattoos, no more than 2 ear piercings, no unnatural hair colors." At one point, a supervisor that started years after I was hired tried to get me on the stretched lobes, but the policy didn't dictate the size of the piercings. When I pointed that out, they dropped it. They've revised it multiple times over the years, each time getting more and more lenient. All of those things are now allowed at the world-famous hospital system I work at. 🖤
For the interview, if you don't know their policies, I would still personally remove the facial piercings or swap to retainers.
