I was looking through the old "describe your neighborhood" thread from a few years ago and got some really good information on where to start looking for where I want to live. The areas that caught my interest are West Mount Airy, East Mount Airy, Bella Vista, and Melrose Park. I'm looking on various sites that list homes for sale (not looking to rent) and those areas all seem alright, but that doesn't give me an on-the-ground perspective. I know "feeling safe" is relative: what seems safe to me (a 215 lb, athletic-build dude) may very well not be safe for my SO (a 115 lb, 5' lady). That thread is also 4 years old, so if you all (should I say yous?) could provide some fresh insight on those areas, I'd appreciate it.
