I’m currently debating if I should keep my beater or just sell. It’s a 2004 Toyota Matrix XR, standard, gets about 30 mpg (87 at $5.80/ gal), has 150k miles. I bought it 3 year ago for $2800 and can easily sell it for $3500. I also have a 2012 f150 4x4 with about 114k miles on it. My situation is I live in the country and do a bit of farming/ equipment rental (also moved into a fixer upper last year with 10 acres) so the truck is a must. I drive to work about 30 miles each way. I can’t figure out if the car is worth keeping. Due to the truck being flex fuel and running on E85 I get 14mpg @ $3.89/ gal. Penciled out just to work and back the car should save me about $150-$200 of fuel a month. Minus the added insurance ($80). But it being an older car I’m sure it will start to break down and loose value depleting the money I’ve saved. I can’t lie, the truck is definitely more comfortable to drive but it’s fuel cost is x2. Any advice welcome!
