Hi Everyone,
First time posting so hopefully I get this right.
I currently have $6300 left on my car loan at 4.78% (Original balance around $17000 when I bought it at the end of 2020)
I have all of my expenses budgeted through the next few months and currently have a plan to pay off the car by March of 2022.
However, I have $6900 in an Ally savings account (.5% interest)
If I pay this car off today, I'll have $600 left in my savings but I can build it back to it's current balance using the money i originally alotted for bulk car payments. Apart from my savings, I have a little over $6200 in a Stash Invest account and $4600 in a Wealthfront invest account and almost 50k in my 401k, so I have other money squirreled away. Also, my employment is secure so I'm not forseeing needing to live off of my savings.
The only other debt I have is a student loan with a balance of $15,700 that I just refinanced to 3.36%. My plan after March was to use what would have been car payments to chip away at the loan early.
So, should I pay this car off now or stick to my original plan for a March payoff?
EDIT: Thank you all for your advice! I did some number crunching on how long it would take to rebuild my savings and get it to a proper emergency level (6months expenses) if I pay off the car early vs. paying it down and off by March, and I think I'm going to go with the latter. As nice as it would feel to have the car completely paid off now, I'd rather have the peace of mind of having my savings as a buffer just in case something happens. And then after March, I can really build it to a 6 month reserve within 3 months and then start tackling the student loan. If I was going to be completely debt free without the car payment, I'd probably do it differently.
Thank you all again for taking the time to respond! It really helped me put things in perspective and make a decision I feel comfortable with.
