Got charged $571 for a pregnancy test. Tried a few things but unsure of how to proceed.
Post Body

Hello, first time posting here. I've talked to several people but I'm not too familiar with how this works.

I moved and got a new general doctor and some lab work referral. My doctor had mentioned adding pregnancy test "just in case", I didn't care because you can get one at a dollar store, how much additional could it cost, right? I've done this all before and remember being less than $300, but I decided to call my new insurance anyway to avoid any surprises. Here's a bill summary I received soon after:

  • Blood drawn: $32.75
  • Laboratory: $1,561.99
  • Lab - CBC: $382.32
  • Lab - urine pregnancy test: $571.35

I called the lab and they said maybe if it were charged to a different code, it could be different. My doctor's office said they've never seen anything like this but the Explanation of Benefits has nothing that could help them change it. After some phone tag with the lab, insurance company, and doctor's office, I'm at a loss of who would be the next person to contact, if any, that could help lower this.
