Hello and thanks in advance.
I would like to find myself a financial planner so that I can invest for retirement appropriately and for growth purposes.
I am currently 29. Just got my first well paying job. Annual salary around 100K (pre-tax)
I have a fair amount of cash assets that are sitting in my bank account doing nothing at the moment.
I am going to max out 401K, HSA, and Roth IRA but don't know what to do with whatever else I have nor do I really want to manage investments myself. I'm lazy and have had a vanguard Roth IRA since college and it's done OK just sitting in Target funds and Vanguard Admiral Shares. I will of course leave enough cash assets for a 6-month emergency fund but even after that I still have quite a bit of cash assets just hanging out and gaining nothing. My monthly expenses are manageable as I live with my fiance and no kids.
So...I'm going to look for a financial planner. I need hand holding as I know almost nothing and am frankly really lazy to boot. How do I know who is good? What questions should I ask when looking for one? I know enough to say I should probably hire a fee-only financial planner. Is there an advantage of finding somebody who is a Certified Financial Planner?
