Post Body

Just as the title says. Back in 2011 my older sister convinced me to claim her two children as dependents so she could receive the Tax Credit for them.

She owed back child support and believed the tax credit would be withheld.

I was told by both her and my mother that this was perfectly legal because I was living with them at the time.

I got audited, clearly, and my family withheld that information from me. Several years go by and I blissfully ignore my situation, however now I’m trying to start a family and need to get this situation under control.

I haven’t the slightest idea of where to start or what to do to rectify this problem, any advice would be greatly appreciated.
