I recently got a new job, and my wife and I are going to have to relocate. We have a house we really like in an area we love (and could see ourselves coming back to down the road), and with a really good interest rate. We keep going back and forth on what to do with our current home. We have spoken to a realtor and we could net around 60k if we decide to sell.
The housing market in the area we are moving to is very high, and on top of interest rates, we are looking to just rent there.
We have about 50k in debt between a car loan and personal loans for work done around the house.
We are leaning towards selling the house and paying off all our debt, renting and saving to buy down the line.
We have also talked about renting/airBnBing our current home, since we have such a good rate and it is in an area we could see ourselves coming back to down the road.
Any opinions on what would be the better option?
For reference, my wife is 29 and I am 32, and we make about 170k between us
I should also add- we would have to throw some more money at it to get it quite ready to be an Airbnb or rental. House was build in the 60s and dated when we moved in, and we didn’t get everything updated like we wanted to
