Hi all! Laptop noob here, so I apologize in advance for any ignorance on my part. As the title states, my friend’s laptop started to make sizzling sounds, smoked, and then turned off while playing bg3. He asked me to try and take it apart so we could try to find out what burned out. I took off the back plate and then the fans and heating coil to reveal the gpu and cpu, and we didn’t see anything weird to our knowledge. I took the whole motherboard out and on the opposite side, we saw what looked to be a “chip” (unsure what it actually is) burned out with browning around it. Does anyone have any idea if this would be worth trying to bring to a pc repair shop to do an easy fix or would it be too expensive and just better to buy/ build a whole new laptop/desktop?
