Finally got around to trying Red Dead Redemption 2 after hearing about how awesome it is...
Post Body

And I hate it. The movement around the world is SO slow and I hate the controls too. We just moved camp after the snowy stater area and I went into town for the first time and I just have no desire to play this game again. Does it get better? Am I missing something?

The game looks beautiful and that is a major plus, but the controls and movement and inventory system just suck for me. I havenā€™t enjoyed the small amount of combat so far either. The system of 8 different bars and cores for your horse and everything else just seems arbitrarily complex.

Iā€™m guessing this is just a great game that just isnā€™t for me, but before I uninstall it, I wanted to ask if anyone had some tips or pointers or something.

Did anyone else have this kind of reaction and grow to like/love it?

Thanks for any comments!

Edit: Thanks for all the comments! Many great tips for me to endure and hopefully grow to like/love it. Many others felt the same tediousness that I felt.

The comments have exploded and I canā€™t get to them all now, but will try to answer later. In the time it took me to answer 11 comments, I had 27 more waiting!

Edit 2: Iā€™m not sure that this game is for me. I might try to push forward more to get to Chapter 2 and see if it gets better.

Edit 3: thanks for all the comments! I wonā€™t be able to respond to everybody as there are a few hundred comments now.

To sum up, many people agreed with me that the game is too slow and tedious for them.

Others said I should give it up to Chapter 2 or 3 as it picks up.

And many others said Iā€™m just bat shit crazy for not enjoying this masterpiece.

To each their own! Everyone play and enjoy your games!

This was the game that made me realize that I donā€™t play video games to have ā€œexperiencesā€ anymore. Iā€™m less concerned about finely crafted cutscenes or immersive sim qualities and more concerned about player agency and control, and I had to refund the game because it felt like I was on a carefully curated rollercoaster instead of being dropped in a world with interesting gameplay options.
