How long does it take to get to know the legal world? I have worked for my firm for 2 months and I feel like I don't know anything. Unfortunately, my mother passed away when I started, so that's been affecting my work. They've been super understanding and are accommodating me, but I feel like I should still know more than I do. I know the basic idea of what each pleading is called and what it contains, but I have a difficult time knowing what to email to clients/whatnot.
I voiced my concerns and my overwhelming response to my tasks piling up. But I still feel incredibly dumb. Like, I'm scared to put down an event on the Outlook calendar because I might word something wrong. I've already been nitpicked for having a typo by my attorney I work for. Also, I've received eye rolls and being treated like I'm incompetent. Yet, the firm has experienced lots of issues unrelated to me, but keeps my trainer busy. I felt stuck, and treated unfairly by the eye rolling attorney. I hope this gets better, because I had to communicate how overwhelmed I feel with my primary attorneys I work for and I was so nervous I was going to get fired because of it.
