J3+ resume thoughts
Post Body

Here’s my situation:

J1 for 6.5 years, very large health insurance company with antiquated tech stack, data scientist title currently

J2 for almost 2 years, software startup with modern analytics tech stack, engineering title

Considering going for J3 or just switching out J1 for something more similar to J2.

I’ve seen suggestions for just putting J2 skills and accomplishments under J1 in the resume, since I’ve been there longer and no gaps. But being able to reference being at an engineering org has advantages.

Do I list J2 as a freelance gig? Can I keep employer anonymous as a freelancer and cite an NDA for why? Or do I just totally lie about the context of my roles at J1 to mimic J2? Is either fine and I’m just overthinking it?

Thanks for any guidance! Can’t believe I’m coming up on 2 years of OE, but definitely still feel novice at some of this.
