Hi! I’m currently questioning if I’m an otherkin and some advice would be really helpful if you don’t mind reading this whole thing.
I’ll start off by saying that I’m 14 F2M trans and have been in the furry fandom for about a year, which led me to the discovery of therians and otherkin. I don’t know if I fully identify as something other than human because I’m still figuring out being trans, but there are really strong signs that I’ll list.
As a kid, I would do a lot of quadrobics and pretend to be a goat. Over time I started instinctually doing vocals, like hissing and growling when people got in my space. I also like to make dens in areas where I feel safe such as under my bunk bed or desk.
(What is about to be said is not being sexualized, it’s just something I think is relevant.) It’s not just behavioral things like that either- when I hit puberty, my periods were really different from everyone else’s. I’d always hear the girls complaining about cramps and mood swings, but all I’d feel was a need to mate.
That’s the evidence I have so far- I’d also like to add in that if I am an otherkin, I don’t know what my kintype is, but I feel a strong connection to large cats, snow, and pine trees. I also have a phantom sense of having wings and ears.
If any of you took the time to read all that, thanks, it means a lot.
Edit: Special thanks to @Susitar for helping me figure things out. I’ve done a bit of thinking, and I think I’m probably an otherkin, but I still don’t know what kind. If any of you can tell me if you know of a kintype that has feathered wings but also ears like a canine or feline, please let me know.
As boring as this answer might be, nobody else can really figure this out for you. Kind of like being trans: you can be gender non-conforming or be friends with queer people etc without being trans. In the end, it's about what you internally feel like you're supposed to be, rather than certain details. Unlike transgender identities, there is no transitioning and no psychologists specialised in this.
If you feel like you are a non-human creature in some way, then you're otherkin. If that creature is an animal, then you're specifically therian. If that creature is a fictional being (like, a Pokémon or something), then you're fictionkin.
Nobody else can really figure this out for you. But there is no rush, no medals, no competition. So don't worry too much? Just do whatever feels right and is harmless. If you want to run on all fours, you can do so. If you want to hang out on this sub without being certain about your identity, you can do so. You could also try journaling (see my post history for a guide on introspection).
