So I worked as a professional photographer for about 5 years before quitting to work for my family’s business when they really needed help. Sold all my gear over the years, D300s, all my lenses, sb-700, studio equipment, etc.
I have had a lot of photo job opportunities over the years and turned them down but now want to get back into it. So far I’ve grabbed a Z6 to start with, will build up my lenses before upgrading the body. Came with the 24-70f4 (it’s awesome obviously), and a 28 f2.8. Grabbed a new sb-700 for $200.
These Z mount lenses are epic, I’m here to ask what would you recommend grabbing first. I will be doing portraits, both headshots and family pics. Engagement photos, and weddings (starting as a 2nd shooter for a couple guys I know). I want to get the 85mm f1.8 S, 50mm f1.8S, but which other lenses stand out that I should be after also? The 24-70 f2.8S looks awesome but having to the f4 already seems counterintuitive until I’ve gotten more.
Not on the lens front, but my sb 700 crapped out on me at a rehearsal dinner of all places last month. I had been looking into off camera triggers and things before it stopped working. Rather than get another sb 700 I got a godox TT685 and a godox xt2 trigger. The setup is simple and seamless. I’d only ever used an optical trigger for external flash. I think for the flash and the trigger it was maybe $150 for both brand new. It was out of the box and operational in 5 mins having never used it before. The flash unit itself essentially operates like the sb 700, is TTL, but I think it’s more powerful and has built in radio receiver for being a slave. Kind of a game changer for me. Ps don’t buy the tt 600, this does not have TTL. Which is important to me.

And small and light. Second nod for the 40.
