NFL Week 5 Predictions Thread (2021 Season)
Post Body

Happy Wednesday, /r/NFL! We have a month of football in the books and we're starting to see how the teams will mature over the remainder of the season. I hope everyone did well with their predictions last week. I was able to improve to 12-4, bringing me to 45-19 on the season. Post your results and your picks for this week. Week 5 gives us just five divisional matchups this week. Let's get to it!

Winner Loser Comments
Seahawks over Rams Toss up pick that is heavily influenced by the venue. The Rams took their first loss last week, and the Seahawks are coming off a big victory. McVay is 6-3 head-to-head against Carroll, and that includes a 3-2 record at Lumen Field. This will be a tight game, and Seattle starts the week off with kind of an upset, helped out by the 12th Man.
Falcons over Jets The Jets got on the board last week, and Atlanta allows the most points in the NFL at 32 points per game. New York still commits too many turnovers, and without a running game that's going to be tough to win on the road.
Packers over Bengals The Packers have lost their last two trips to Cincinnati. In 2005, a fan stole the ball from Favre and In 2013 Terence Newman scored on a fumble return for a TD. Strange things could happen if the Packers start slow. Mixon and Alexander are key injuries in what should be another close encounter for the Packers.
Vikings over Lions Detroit winning in Minnesota is not going to happen with the way they're playing. However, both teams struggle against the run, so Cousins and Goff should enjoy nice games. The Vikings need to get Cook on track if they want to keep up in the division.
Steelers over Broncos Location and injuries may give the Steelers the win on this one. Bridgewater might miss this game, which is impactful. The Steelers are a brutal watch at times on offense, but the defense should be able to force a few turnovers from Lock if he starts. Pittsburgh guts out an ugly win with a late drive from Big Ben, but it isn't pretty.
Buccaneers over Dolphins The Dolphins are in an early-season slide. Miami has yet to have a game with at least 200 yds passing, and that's bad news against Brady. Miami had some memorable upsets involving Brady when he was in New England. This won’t be one of those moments.
Saints over Washington Toss up game. I could see either team win in this matchup. The Saints are in rollercoaster mode right now, winning handily one week and losing games they should win in the next. Fortunately, they're on the uphill part going into FedEx Field. If the pass D can contain Heinicke and force him into uncomfortable spots, and if Jameis can let it rip, then they have a shot.
Eagles over Panthers Upset pick! The Eagles are an underdog that can pull an upset on the road. Philly has issues against the run, but will the Panthers stick with it long enough? Hurts spreads out the Panthers’ D and avoids the big turnover, and Sanders scores the game-winning TD in the fourth quarter.
Titans over Jaguars The Jags are still looking for that first win under Urban Meyer, and Tennessee proved vulnerable without starting receivers Brown and Julio. The bad news for Meyer is Vrabel will feed Henry early, and the Jacksonville pass D will be exploited once more.
Patriots over Texans The Pats lost the Brady Bowl, but Jones’ poise as a rookie QB continues to be an early-season surprise. Houston has scored a total of nine points in their last two losses, and New England should be able to grind out a victory on the road.
Raiders over Bears The Bears D has been great making plays at times and leaky at others. Chicago has classic inconsistency at 2-2 but have a few skill players to cause Vegas issues, especially if Montgomery doesn't need to miss time. The Raiders have played well at home with Carr and should meet the required level on defense.
Browns over Chargers This may be a good one. Baker did not play well in Minnesota, and the Browns won. The Browns have the top rushing offense in the NFL, and the D flexed the last two weeks. Mayfield bounces back in another clutch road victory.
Cowboys over Giants The Cowboys have the second-best running game in the NFL, and the Pollard-Zeke combination has helped Dak, who was lost for the season in this game last year. The Cowboys’ hype is coming, and it builds with another NFC East victory at home.
Cardinals over 49ers It’s tempting to take the 49ers if Lance starts, especially with the building hype around the unbeaten Cardinals. Kingsbury is 3-3 against San Fran, and Murray will continue the hot start with another efficient performance at home.
Chiefs over Bills This is another good battle that could be heavily influenced by homefield. The Chiefs have question marks, and the D is becoming a concern. Buffalo can win this matchup, as they lead the league with a 7 turnover ratio, and the Chiefs have been loose with the football. Allen has been great, too. However, Mahomes leads the game-winning drive this time. KC reasserts its place in the AFC hierarchy.
Ravens over Colts The Colts finally picked up their first victory, but now it’s a road trip to Baltimore. The Ravens have won four of the last five in this series, and Jackson is coming off his first 300-yd game of the season. Baltimore stays hot at home.

Those are my predictions, let's hear yours. Keep it civil and fun. Good luck!

Update: 12-4 again, on to Week 6!
