As I said, people were not aware of the harmful side effects of smoking. The tobacco industry wanted to withhold that information to protect their sales with disregard to what cigarettes did to people. Gun manufacturers don’t advertise their products to commit crime or suicide. Most of their advertising is portrayed as home defense, hunting, or towards government contracts which the general public doesn’t see. The same goes for movies, TV shows, or video games that portray gun violence. Are you arguing those mediums knowingly and purposefully promote gun violence?

People back then, like before the 90s, didn’t understand that smoking causes cancer, fucks up your lungs, and kills you slowly because of lack of information and the popular culture around it. Everyone since the invention of guns understand that guns are weapons meant to kill. We saw advertisements promoting smoking is cool and that you should do it back then in mainstream TV adverts and by celebrities. How many advertisements do we see of gun brands in mainstream media that promote killing people and how we should do it with this gun?
