Recently more than ever I’ve seen Derrick Rose’s MVP season as being over rated or that Lebron or Dwight deserved it over him. A lot of revisionism so let’s look at the season in the context of 2011 not 2021.
Reason 1: Most wins: the previous 4 seasons the MVP came from the team with the most wins in the NBA or their conference(Kobe Bryant was the only one who didn’t have the best league record but he did have the best in west and this was also a Legacy MVP cuz dude deserved one) so there was a major presidence to give the MVP to the best player on the best team.
Reason 2. It was almost unheard of to see a 3rd year player lead their team like this, Lebron did it in 2007, and shocked the world, now we got to see Derrick Rose do it and he won 11 more games than Lebron did at that age!
Reason 3. His numbers were actually good as fuck he was top 4 in scoring behind only KD, Kobe, Lebron. A guy drafted two years earlier was already in the same company of the best of the best. Additionally top 8 in assists
Reason 4. He was playing without starters Joakim missed over 30 games and Boozer missed over 25, take away 2 of the starters on any team for 30 games in a season that’s enough to make a team lose their #1 seed unless ur getting carried by an MVP.
Reason 5. Flashy highlights, Roses MVP season kind of like Curry’s in the sense that every night they played there was a highlight of something you’ve never seen before, literal can’t miss basketball.
Reason 6. They regular season swept the heat, the Super Team that flopped the script got swept by Rose and the bench mob.
Reason 7. Dude took over in 4th quarters hitting daggers and winners all season long, he was an assassin and proved he could win games on his own that he was an army of one. An MVP
All y’all young bloods care only about advanced stats, get ur head outta the book and watch some ball and you’ll see there’s more to an MVP than win shares and TS%
