How do i get started with lead guitar?

I've been playing rhythm guitar for 3 years now and I wanna break out of my comfort zone and try learning lead guitar but i have no clue where to start I know like one scale and I'm in the process of learning a solo but other than that I'm completely clueless. I'm a metal guitarist as well if that bit of info helps much.
