Post Body

Hello fellow brawlers.

One day late but I didn't have the vods ready... also how we have historic Brawl I'm making 2 versions for the Standard commanders (One Standard and One Historic version of the same commander), I would link the Historic version post in the comments when a I made so they are "paired".

This week the deck is Xanathar Control and is the fifth one from a serie of 7 Brawl commander I'm going to record. Play testing (In spanish) here and the decklist is here and I don't know if it's necesary to say it but these decks aren't rotation proof, I simply can't cut 4 sets that are going to still around for some weeks.

I would say that this is a pretty normal dimir deck but with the important point of, hear me out... we can win! I don't know about your personal experience but every time I play against a Xanathar deck I simply kick their ass 100% of the times, also I have seen comments expressin the same situation so the fact that we can actually win is important.

- Our control is pretty Dimir just a bunch of counters like [[Saw it coming]], [[Reject]], [[negate]] and some others removal like [[Power word kill]], [[Feed the swarm]] and some others.

- We have some utility cards like [[Wizard class]], [[Vorpal sword]] card which actually have won me some games and my favorite underdog [[bag of holding]], I think that this card is an excellent "draw engine" since all the cards that you discard can be recovered when you need them. We also have som draw effects like [[Graven lore]], [[deliberate]], etc...

- For the creatures we have only 9 with Xanathar and that's why we try to win with the opponents deck but that doesn't means that you can't win with your own creatures. We have both, cheap creatures and expensive ones, both can be threats by their own and all of them are also utility creatures. [[Sedgemoor witch]] can fill the battlefield with tokens in our "control" strategy and the [[Gelatinous cube]], [[Eradicator valkyrie]] can work as removal (I've been surprise with the performance of the valkyrie), we have [[Asmodeus the archfiend]] and [[Iymrith, desert doom]] for fulfill our hand and if you can have a [[Yuan-Ti Malison]] for turn 2 for sure you're finishing a dungeon.

- The thing that I've been seeing in almost all my "against Xanathar Matchups" is that people just play him when they have 6 mana and that's not the way bro, Xanathar can be great if you play him AND SURVIVE UNTIL YOU CAN TRIGGER HIM! People just play him without any kind of protection so they end with a 6 and a turn wasted. So my personal recomendation is, play when you Xanathar Counter or at least one of

- Our protection cards like [[Shell shield]], [[You see a guard approach]] and [[Giant's amulet]], this last one only works if he is untapped but that's ok, sometimes he just have to sit in your board like a wall that can steal things. We also have [[Tyrite sanctum]], this method take 2 turns but I think is worth it, also you can do those at instant speed.

- Cuts: I put [[Skull raid]] as an "control card" but I didn't play it that much and the times I used it, it wasn't that relevant. [[Vorpal sword]] as I said I have won some games with it but maybe is the best if we cut it out.

- Adds: I don't have any clear addition like "Hey this would be great" or something like that but I would recommend to look at the counter - removal distribution... It didn't happen a lot but there were like 2 games were I needed removal and I only draw counters (Dead cards at that point of the game)

- 10 Wins / 4 Lose

Win - Vivien Monster's advocate: We wipe the board and then use their own bombs against her.

Win - Vorinclex: Poor OP didn't have his Vorinclex for more than one turn.

Win - Farideh: We were dying lol But we use his own removal against him and stole a [[Kiora bests the sea god]]

Lose - Hofri: This one was one of the games that we ran out of removal. We both were top decking and (We couldn't cast Xanathar for 3rd time) and he won in two turns with Hofri Embercleave

Lose - Old Gnawbone: T2 [[Destiny spinner]] Don't draw removal = GG

Lose - Lolth: Mono removal super friends, we couldn't do anything.

Hope you enjoy the deck or that can help you as an idea generator. See you next week fellow brawlers.
