I just spent nearly a month in the hospital and nearly died from pnumonia. I was checked in to UAB hospital in Birmingham, Alabama on January 24th because I had 3 seizures, two of them being at home and the third being in the hospital. I aspirated and got pnumonia and had to be intubated for a few days. I had so many scans done, I had so many tests done, I had a Spinal tap done to test for bacterial meningitis. Once I started to recover post extubation, I was moved to a private room on the 1st. The 2nd was my 24th birthday so they sent a little crew in with a delicious cake and sang happy birthday to me. I was starting to get better until the 6th, when the pnumonia became resistant to the antibiotics. I started to rapidly decline until at one point my O2 saturation was at 77%. I was genuinely scared that I was going to die. The sedated and intubated me again, awhile also hooking me up to ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation). I was basically drowning in my own lung secretions so they had to oxygenate my blood for me temporarily. I was told that normally people spend weeks or months on ECMO, and more than half that end up on it don't come off. I was capped by day 7 and they removed the canules from my neck and thigh on day 9. I was just discharged yesterday and I have to be on oxygen until I'm recovered and I have to go back in a week to get some sutures taken out. I'm on anti seizure meds for 6 months as well. This has been the hardest month of my life and I don't know how or why I made it out. To everyone that works in the medical field, thank you. I'm so damn grateful for everybody that played a part in keeping me alive. From my doctor's to the cleaning staff, they gave me a second chance at life. My fiancee and mom stayed by my side and I love them and appreciate them more than they could ever know. Thanks for reading this and have a blessed day!
