Hello world! I've been writing a setting / source document that uses Mothership - at this point it's a late stage draft, and wanted to share with the community get feedback and see if anyone is interested in collaboration in any of the following ways:
- Editing, proofreading
- Contracting artists to create original work
- Deep conversation with anyone who likes thinking about far-future concepts / ideas in non-conventional ways and values a research-driven approach to forecasting / ideation
- Maybe eventually even trying to crowdfund to some degree
This is a passion project that I've used to try to force semi-realistic assessment of the far future while respecting hard SF elements, to provide a slightly different experience than the standard privateer / crew-based RPG. I had been ideating in parallel and then discovered Mothership and thought it would be a good fit, despite slight tonal differences - the crux of the setting is that technological advance will place super-weapons in nearly everyone's hands - rather than assume anarchy or apocalypse, I wanted to think through how societies might adapt and what it would be like to live in such a future.
If I had to elevator pitch the setting is: a mashup between Planescape, Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri & the fiction of Bruce Sterling. I've worked on it in sprints for the past few months and it's definitely over-written / redundant in places; the RPG mechanics are definitely not balanced or comprehensive - the intention is to have enough to start with to really flesh out. I also plan to run a campaign locally, although that will start with more traditional Mothership modules with this as a skin.
Planning to set up a Discord - and if this resonates would love to get a working group of sorts together. Hope there's interests and excited to see where we can take this -
