Changes to annual leave as a fifo worker

Post Body

Hey everyone,

I’m a fifo worker on a 2/2 roster. I have always accrued 4 weeks of AL per year and I would only need to spend it on the days I was rostered on to work for example: I work 2 weeks, have my 2 weeks of rostered time off, have 2 weeks of annual leave, then another 2 weeks of my rostered time off with only 2 weeks of annual leave hours spent. Recently my employer has changed it so we’d need to spend AL on that rostered time off as we didn’t ‘earn’ it if we used annual leave and didn’t work our full 2 week roster. Eg. take a full 2 week swing off and spend 4 weeks of annual leave.

Some questions I have are: Is this fair and do other fifo workers have similar annual leave terms?

Can my employer change this without getting me to sign a new contract? (My contract just states that we earn 4 weeks per year and no information on earning rostered time off)

Thanks

Yeah nah, calling bullshit. You are contracted to work a certain number of hours over a fortnight which would be in your case a week on and week off total of 90 odd hours which is your full time equivalent.

Tell him he's dreaming, and if he's still hell bent on stealing your annual leave, tell him your new employer has a better deal.
