Post Body

Hello po, UST is not in the choices kasi nasa UP na po talaga ako but naka-AWOL ngayon. UST is for one time admission only and unfortunately, I didn't pass Med Tech during my college admissions.

Financial aspect is very important din po kasi we're paying debt now from the pandemic. UP is very helpful but I'm hesitating pa rin right now if I should go back kasi hindi ko gusto course ko. Nasa interest po siya but I don't think kaya kong ibigay 101% ko.

Please leave comments that you think I should know pa po and might be helpful in my decision-making.

University of the Philippines - Los Baños

Course: BS Biology

Pros:

  • No tuition (would help A LOT in our financial status)
  • Prestige (Hello UP na to)
  • Quality education (COE)
  • Network (from orgs, for jobs and internships)
  • Mulat sa lipunan at realidad
  • Community
  • Skills (built through acads and orgs)
  • I will be able to spend on things that I want and hobbies since 0 tuition
  • Cheaper expenses than in Manila (would help A LOT in our financial status)
  • Familiar of the surroundings na
  • Close friends are here so I can lean on them during tough times
  • LGBTQIA friendly (daming gwapo esp sa seniors LOL)

Cons:

  • Not really my choice of course (in the same field of interest but I wouldn’t give my 101% on it most esp on the hard days)
  • Career opportunities (would help in med but if not med have to take further studies pa; time and money-costly, has broad work like lab/clinical tech, research associate, QA, professor, environmental management specialist but not really my professional interest, no career here in PH based on what I’ve read pls correct me if wrong, low salary)
  • More prone to stress and burnout (given that it’s UP and college but also because I don’t 100% love what I’m studying)
  • Homesick
  • Enlistment (na pwedeng reason bakit ako ma-ddelay)

University of the East Ramon Magsaysay

Course: BS Medical Technology

Pros:

  • Reputable allied health university (people, med students, doctors that I’ve asked prefer this than FEU)
  • UERM is one of my target med school (so I think may easy pass/ticket since UERM undergrad ako pls correct me if wrong tho I know it still depends on my GWA, NMAT, extracurriculars, and interview basta parang UPCM & UST FMS na breeding)
  • Taken subjects are helpful in med
  • Close to my dream course (BS Public Health)
  • Skills (from acads since puro aral daw here)
  • Less chill than UP (favorable for my mental health but pls correct me if wrong)
  • Closer to our home (kaya uwian, less expenses)

Cons:

  • 55k - 60k tuition (wouldn’t help in our financial status)
  • Heavy chem (but I would sacrifice because ito/mas malapit talaga sa course ko)
  • Community (small lang so wala masyadong social life kasi kayo-kayo lang magkakakilala)
  • Orgs (I’ve heard may blood drives naman daw but other than that parang onti na huhu I want to meet people and build skills na hindi academics alam ko may sports, dance, and sing pero wala na bang variety sksks)
  • Career (not that broad compared sa Bio na you can be geared into research but it’s still okay for me but mainly because of low salary)
  • Only have 1 batchmate that I know so back to 0 ulit and harder to socialize
  • Expensive expenses since mall lang nearby place to eat uniform and books pa

Far Eastern University

Course: BS Medical Technology

Pros:

  • Taken subjects are helpful in med
  • Close to my dream course (BS Public Health)
  • Skills (from slight acads and orgs)
  • Network (from orgs, for jobs and internships)
  • Known school pa rin naman
  • Some friends from HS are here rin so I can lean on them during hard times
  • Less chill than UP (favorable for my mental health but pls correct me if wrong)
  • Community (people are welcoming and friends told me that it’s easy to have friends here)
  • LGBTQIA friendly (ang daming gwapo LOL)

Cons:

  • 70k tuition (WTF)
  • Declining MTLE performance and reputability of school (no profs, system, WRP)
  • Expensive lifestyle because I might live in a dorm (because 1hr away if uwian and commute so 2hrs depends pa if traffic) uniform and books pa
  • Heavy chem (but I would sacrifice because ito/mas malapit talaga sa course ko)
  • Parang super sira na ng image and pangit ng impression pagdating sa mga doctors, med students, and HCWs and professionals so that’s a turn off (but people are telling me it’s still up to me if magpapaapekto at gagalingan na lang which is true)
  • Career (not that broad compared sa Bio na you can be geared into research but it’s still okay for me but mainly because of low salary)
