I've got a 2017 Mazda CX-5 in soul red crystal that is my baby. Back in 2019, she got resprayed by the dealer due to a paint chipping issue that's a known problem with this year and paint formulation. Mazda approved the repair.
Fast forward to today, when I was detailing the car after a long road trip to Southern California and the central coast (collectively 26 hours of driving).
I immediately notice that an entire flake of the paint down to the white base was taken out by maybe a rock. This is on the hood of the car, driver's side, close to the edge.
So, I want to know if others have seen this kind of damage due to rock chips, or if this might be something unusual. The paint job is "guaranteed" by the dealer, but if this is something normal I don't want to waste my time driving 45 min to show them. Though, I might ask them to look at it during my next service anyway-- the car is in such fantastic condition other than this. I'm also sorry if this is a really common sense question-- this is my first car and I don't know anyone else who has any such knowledge. Thank you!
