Original post was removed because of title, hopefully this one better in its description.
I never understood why we got to vote on what seems, to me, like an accountant for the state.
Nor why political party affiliation should matter when the comptroller seems to just carry out the decisions already made by the state.
u/Few_Valuable_4779 had a chance to answer before post was removed:
"The comptroller is very powerful in MD. The position is one of three votes that can approve spending projects. (The Gov. and the treasurer also have votes). Whichever party controls 2 of the 3 votes has a lot of say in how money gets spent in the state."
I found this Conversation with the Candidates for anyone interested https://omny.fm/shows/midday/lierman-d-vs-glassman-r-candidates-for-md-comptrol
Edit: listened to the above conversation. A good listen, provides more details on importance of comptrollers. Candidates had good discourse.
Reposting for others to see in case you're like me or if you have more insight. Thanks!
