First of all at the end of the day, how could this movie be better than the marketing campaign? I really don’t think it could. The trailers were some of my favorite in a while.

With that being said it was pretty good. Nicholas Cage was awesome and I think the limited screen time helps keep the mystery up and such.

Maika Monroe was good but not great I’d say. A bit wooden even if her character is off socially. Her boss was alright but probably could have been casted better.

It’s a slow burn which I don’t mind for the most part. I’m big on soundtracks and man this movie deserved so much better in that department.

The director carried over some concepts from his previous film “blackcoats daughter” . Which I wouldn’t say was a bad film but also wouldn’t watch again. Showing a younger version of someone in the past and then revealing another character to be that same person in the present was in that film like this one.

And the devil calling her on the phone too.

Also the use of “hail satan”. Which honestly for me didn’t land. It just came and comes across as goofy when said and takes me right out of any scene. And it was said in like four in this movie. I could see some people not liking that.

I wasn’t expecting the humor in this film and don’t really think it called for any but it wasn’t bad.

None of the dialogue was bad but some of it was..ok. Some was good though! Nick cage had some pretty iconic lines.

I thought the ending was fine but how it all wrapped up was a bit odd. Her FBI agent being the one targeted felt dumb like they wanted to get caught.

All in all I definitely enjoyed it and will be watching it again.

I have some questions for those who have seen it:

I understand the mom begged for Lee to be able to live, why wasn’t she hypnotized by lees doll like the other moms?

Why did lees mom shoot the head off of the doll that looked like lee? I thought she wanted to keep everything going so lee could live and they don’t twist and burn in hell.

Why was longlegs leaving letters anyway? Couldn’t be for lee to find because he left at least one before she became an FBI agent.

Why would he want to get caught if he’s trying to carry out the devils work?
