Today, I GAINED fifteen dollars by buying the LEGO Star Wars game.

This is the type of thing that might get me downvoted into oblivion, but I am posting it because the LEGO minifig market genuinely makes no damn sense to me.

I was on the LEGO website promptly at midnight, to order my copy of the LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga Deluxe Edition. I wanted the deluxe edition for all of the "free" DLC, and because I needed a physical copy for my LEGO game collection. Subsidizing LEGO purchases by selling minifigs is something I do regularly, but the market does not make, and has never made sense to me. I will buy a set, or in this case, a game, I will look up the minifigs on eBay, and unless there are figs I really want to keep, which isn’t many, I sell them for whatever the going price is. But, the prices that minifigs sell for doesn’t seem to have any rhyme or reason. I paid $70 for the game, checked eBay for the minifig, which has been selling for $85-$100 , listed mine for $85, and it sold in like three hours. So, I made money on a game that I only bought for the game in the first place. Likewise, I have the Marty and Doc Brown from the Delorean listed for $95, which is what the only other set of those two listed on eBay sold for.

I do this with most of the sets I buy, becuse I am more interested in the builds and the time I am spending, than the minifigs. Can any of the collectors here shed some light on what, if anything, is really dictating these prices? In some cases, the minifigs in a set will sell for more, total, than the cost of the set. I know collectors who want the minifig, but don’t want the hassle of reselling the bricks are one aspect, but what are the rest? Like, who is the collector that wants Doc Brown and Marty, but doesn’t want the Delorean, er… Time Machine? I am genuinely asking for some insight here.

TLDR: bought The Skywalker Saga Deluxe Edition game for $70, sold the Luke minifig for $85, hence was paid $15 to buy a game I was buying anyway.
