I never thought Iād have to ever post here, but here I am. Gave the rules, wiki, and FAQ a read before I even tried posting.
Today at work (I work in Huntingdon, PA 16652) I received a random phone call from āAccount Servicesā. They did not leave a voicemail message, so I thought nothing of it.
On my break, I was a little bored and decided to call back just in case it was a scammer and I wanted to mess with them.
It was a debt collection agency.
I was a bit taken aback because the only debt I have is my student loans, my car loan, and a little bit of credit card debt. Nothing in collections or so I thought.
They had outdated information about me. I have since moved about four hours away to Ramey PA 16671. So it was a bit of a struggle to verify what the person on the phone was even calling about.
It turns out that an urgent care (Patient First) I went to in 2022 didnāt bill me correctly despite me having health insurance (it was Medicaid, through the state). So there is an outstanding amount of money in collections gaining interest every day (I believe itās between 260-300 dollars). Just because someone made a mistake. I did everything right. I always fork over my insurance cards before seeing any healthcare āprofessionalsā.
What can I do so I can avoid paying this? I donāt feel like I should be held accountable for services rendered YEARS ago that were incorrectly billed. And I donāt even have Medicaid right now anymore. All I have until MAWD kicks in is the insurance through my employer, Walmart.
Iām going to try to call Patient First and get them to drop it. What do I do if they try to tell me āwe already put this through insurance and they didnāt cover everything?ā Medicaid is supposed to cover everything. I should not have had to pay anything out of pocket. Iāve went to them before with Medicaid and never paid out of pocket.
Thanks everyone in advance
