I need help! I moved to Kansas in February to live with my parents and my tags on my car were expired. I tried to get them before leaving Texas but my car failed inspection because I had just gotten a new battery. Out of state requires so much just to switch over registration and drivers license to a new state. I just started working in August, I have no bills mailed to me because I live with my parents. Well, I got pulled over for speeding and because my tags are a year expired he said I have to appear in court in 3 months and it’s a misdemeanor. I have a clean record. I’ve been pulled over for speeding once before in 2016. I told him, I haven’t been able to get new tags or a Kansas license because they require so much and I don’t have proof of living here. What do I do?? Do I get a lawyer? I don’t mind paying the $400 ticket, but I don’t want a record and I don’t want to have to do community service or serve jail time. If it wasn’t so hard to get tags I’d have gotten them by now. I haven’t had the multiple proofs of address they require because I don’t get bills. I really need help here.
