My fiance and I were traveling to an apple orchard in Virginia yesterday when a tree fell onto the hood of our moving vehicle causing us to flip over the tree and roll an undetermined amount of times to a stop. The tree fell from a property/land to the right of us on the one lane road we were traveling on. The weather was partial/cloudy but no wind or anything else. The area likely got some rain in the recent past. We were traveling the speed limit, about 55-60. There was no time to react.
The car is totaled but my partner and I, against all odds, came out with only scratches, bruises, and a bit of trauma that were going to have to work through.
Should we just take the auto insurance payout and be happy? Is this just a freak accident? Should we look into whose property the tree that fell came from, or am i just grasping for someone, something, or some reason to blame for a freak, truly random accident?
