My 12 year old called 988 after a string of fights with his mother. Situation has steadily worsened since his mom and I separated last year (legally divorced in March). We share custody
He has panic attacks and says she puts too much pressure on him, controls him, and yells at him. Often tells him to wander downtown after school until she can pick him up when she finishes work.
He wants to live with me full time. Turns 13 at the end of the month. We are in Georgia where the law is he must be 14 to choose custody.
I wanted to have him sign an Affidavit of Election to live with me. Thats something he wants to do, unprovoked by me.
Lawyer wants me to go for all three of my kids (we also have a 6 and 10 year old). Reality is the situation is worse for the 12 year old. He is the one having suicidal ideation.
My thinking is a custody fight for all three kids will take months. Whereas emergency change of custody due to his 988 suicidal line call justifies changing his custody as fast as possible.
Lawyer wants to have my ex evaluated for Border Line Personality disorder. That seems complex and difficult to prove in a legal setting.
Thoughts appreciated
