In November 2023, I found out I was pregnant. I already have a disabled child and was in a new relationship, so I contacted BPAS for an abortion. After a consultation and ultrasound, I was given abortion pills. I took the first pill in the clinic and the second 24 hours later as instructed. Despite severe cramping, I only experienced slight bleeding and called the BPAS aftercare line multiple times over the next four weeks due to persistent pregnancy symptoms. They assured me it would have work and to take the pregnancy test provided after four weeks.
The test came back positive, and an ultrasound confirmed I was still pregnant at about 10 weeks. I was given the pills again and endured excruciating pain but still no bleeding. I again called the aftercare line and was advised to wait a few more days. A few days passed and I called again. BPAS then called to inform me that they had a doctor look over my previous scans and that the fetus was likely implanted in my cesarean scar, a rare and potentially life-threatening condition, and advised me to go to the hospital immediately.
At the hospital, I was initially sent home despite severe pain, as I wasn't actively bleeding. The next day, BPAS advised me to return to A&E, where I was finally referred to the surgical gynecology unit. An ultrasound confirmed a cesarean scar ectopic pregnancy, which had been missed in two prior scans. I was admitted for emergency surgery the next morning after heavy bleeding began. I spent four days in the hospital with a catheter, uterine drain, and vaginal packing.
This experience has significantly impacted my mental health, leading to anxiety and nightmares. Was this negligence? I'm unsure and seeking opinions
