Is web dev the only way to freelance being self-taught?
Post Body

I'm feeling a bit stuck. This is my second big attempt at learning to code. The first time was with The Odin Project, I never finished and completed around 75% of the course. I really disliked the learning style how they direct you to a ton of free resources, with some being out of date. Ruby was okay, JavaScript not so much and they lost me once we started to deploy Rails.

I finally discovered Python and wow what a difference that made. I've learned the basics and dabbled in pandas, matplotlib, beautiful soup and sklearn. I enjoy working with data and would like to eventually learn R as well.

I've noticed a lot of the freelancing sites like UpWork are all about web development. Front-end, back-end, full stack and if they have a Django/Flask position, they want you to know the other web development languages, too. I'm torn because I need to make money but my gosh web development is a grind.

I've considered going to a bootcamp where maybe I could easily drill all this web development crap into my head but they don't have the best reputations, they're overpriced and I hear it's a fancy way to learn how to Google search.

Last night I was thinking about getting started with neural networks and paused because what's the point if the only positions open to someone self-taught and without a comp sci degree is in web development? Sorry for the rant. Like I said I feel a bit stuck but I haven't been at this Python phase very long, so maybe I'm missing the silver lining somewhere.
