My only child will be starting Kindergarten in August. I was on the TSC website a few days ago and learned they are not requiring Covid vaccinations of the staff nor the students. They are not requiring masks. They are not doing any virtual learning options and the schools will be at full capacity. LSC is also not requiring masks. West Lafayette is requiring masks in K-6.
Given that no one under the age of 12 years old is eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine, this means that elementary schools will be full of students with no access to any protection against the virus. Although the risk of death from COVID-19 is very low for children, they can and do get sick from the disease. Serious health complications, including long COVID, are a concern, and the potential long-term health implications are yet unknown. Aside from the students safety, if someone tests positive for Covid then everyone who has been around that student will have to quarantine for two weeks. This inevitably means that most parents of TSC students will have to stop working at some point to stay home with the child. The American Academy of Pediatrics, the CDC and the Indiana Department of Health said that indoor masking for elementary school students should be required.
Please join us in letting the TSC School Board know that we want masks required in elementary schools this fall. We need to continue with these protections until elementary-aged children have the opportunity to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
Here is how you can take action: Sign the petition at https://forms.gle/9P3HHZVRoht4DRBNA Send an email to the TSC School Board at [email protected] and the superintendent, Dr. Scott Hanbeck, at [email protected]. Tell them if you are a TSC parent or staff member. Point out that COVID precautions worked for the schools last year! Encourage them to follow the state department of health guidelines and mask in elementary schools.
Pass the word to others! Please share this message with other TSC parents or staff. Encourage them to take action as well.
Please lend your voice to this effort.
If you are over 12 years old then you have the choice to get vaccinated or not. These children have no choice yet. If you don't care about their health or don't believe in Covid or whatever- do you care about the local economy? Because the Government will start to shut stuff down again if our positive test rates get too high.
