It would appear that I'd what it is, but the few pieces of chert that I have (identified by others and successfully knapped) had that same smell, and I was hoping I could use it to positively ID it in the future, but in good news I now know another rock that is NOT chert

I busted a few test flakes off of it and it would appear to be and smells like gunpowder, but I'll be the first to tell you I'm bad at identify it.
