Hi! I'm Philip Markle, former director, teacher, and performer of The Annoyance Theatre NY! AMA!
Post Body

Hey everyone! My name's Philip Markle (u/philipsparkle). I've been teaching improv and acting internationally for 15 years, from Berlin to Bali. I moved to NYC in 2013 to launch the theatre and training center of The Annoyance Theater NY, where I taught and shaped its curriculum, performed, and acted as its Executive Director until Fall 2016. I performed and trained in Chicago at The Annoyance, iO, and Second City. As a teacher, I'm all about empowering students and helping them to burn whatever fear is holding them back. I don't believe there is a right or wrong way to improvise, only a weak or strong way, and my job as a teacher to get out of your head and into your power as a performer onstage. You can read my writings on improv here: https://medium.com/burn-your-fear . I'm also a musical improviser, having performed with Baby Wants Candy in Chicago and BLANK: The Musical Off-Broadway in NY. Lastly, I've produced many shows and can speak to my experience working behind the scenes, be it running a theater or marketing your work or taking shows on the road like with my show Happy Karaoke Fun Time.

Thanks /u/SpeakeasyImprov for setting this up! I'm posting this now and will be checking back as I can throughout the day and then live from 3:30-5:00 PM EST to answer questions! AMA!
